[2008 Oct] B.C. man paralyzed after flu shot warns of risks The neurologist
diagnosed Ryan with Guillain-Barré syndrome, an autoimmune disease that
attacks the nervous system. He spent the next 10 weeks recovering in
hospital, including three weeks in intensive care, barely able to breathe or
eat for himself. "My face was paralyzed. I had no feeling inside my mouth.
I couldn't feel my tongue. My left eye wouldn't close so it had to be taped
shut to sleep," he said. The illness progressed into a lifelong condition
known as chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), and a
year later he remains heavily medicated, unable to work, and has memory
problems. Although the disease is in remission, he is not expected to make
a full recovery, and the chronic condition could return at any point in the
future.

Guillain-Barre' is often misdiagnosed as polio, as was the case with
President Franklin Delano
Roosevelt.

Actually, we don't know what Roosevelt, although it is more likely he
had GBS rather than polio.

Over seventy years ago. Now, with much more sophisticated testing
ability, it will not happen.

I sent an email to a well known neurologist-blogger about this, and he
said thart he tended to agree. He is researching this, and will write
a blog article about it in the future. He will use facts.

That shows your ignorance. GBS and polio are different things. One is an
autoimmune disorder (GBS) and the other is a viral infection.

Agreed, no certainty there but I had a link which I posted a while
back
where a team of experts reviewed the historical data and concluded
that it was more likely Roosevelt had GBS.

What made this political is that Roosevelt, being a great president
in time of national crisis, became famous for herorically struglling
against polio so there is resistance now to the admission that it was
probably not polio.

ROTFL!

It is well known that polio is a particular disease caused by particular
virii. The website you suggested is consistant with this. The people who
had polio after getting the vaccine got the polio because the vaccine is
a live-virus vaccine. Unfortunately, so people do very rarely get polio
after taking the oral vaccine, which is why it is not given in the US
anymore (except in rare circumstances).

When you get a clue, let us know.

Have a lovely weekend!

Back to that piece of nonsense, I see. I know that recycling garbage

CJ was using it to attack the polio vaccination campaign. Apparently,
if FDR didn't have polio then the polio scare was a furphy, the March
of Dimes was a fraud and polio vaccination wasn't ever necessary.
Remember that CJ is a fully paid-up anti-vaccination liar.

That was the same reference that he cited. Note that it appears in a
journal of biography, which is not necessarily the same as science.

OK smartass, how do you get it from DPT vaccine?
http://whale.to/vaccines/polio6.html
Dr Geffen reported similar findings from the London borough of St Pancras,
where 30 children under the age of 5 developed polio within four weeks of
being immunised against diphtheria or whooping cough or both, the paralysis
affecting, in particular, the limb of injection. Two medical statisticians
at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine examined these reports
and concluded that:

"Geffen (1950) noted in the 1949 epidemic 30 out of 182 paralytic patients
under 5 had been immunised against diptheria, pertussis, or both within
weeks of contracting polio. In all of these cases the limb last injected
was paralysed; in another seven cases a different limb was affected. In 21
of the 30 cases combined diptheria and pertussis vaccine had been used, APT
in eight, and pertussis alone in one. Geffen calculated that the
proportion of children becoming paralysed after immunisation was of the
order of 1 in 1800. The interval between injection and the developement of
polio was usually between 5 and 16 days (Geffen, Paterson and Tracy
1953)."--Wilson, The Hazards of Immunisation

Dr Arthur Gale of the Ministry of Health reported 65 cases from the
Midlands, where paralysis followed about two weeks after an injection: in 49
of these, paralysis occurred in the injected limb. Then it was reported that
of 112 cases of paralysis admitted to the Park Hospital, London, during
1947-1949, 14 were paralysed in the limb which had received one or more of a
course of immunising injections within the previous two months. In the
majority of cases, the interval between the last injection and the onset of
paralysis was between 9 and 14 days. Again, combined whooping cough,
diphtheria and tetanus injections were involved.

When you get a clue, let us know.

That figures, polio is just a poison disease similar to GBS
http://whale.to/vaccines/gbs.htm, but you can't flog a polio vaccine off GBS
