I think I can say this now. I was afraid to say it out loud for awhile
for fear of jinxing us, but almost 27-month old DD hasn't nursed in
about a month, and more importantly, hasn't *asked* to nurse.

I'm not really sure what worked, we were nursing very little anyway,
and there were nights she'd be distracted and forget. When I would say
no, though, she freaked. So we continued on for awhile. I was ok with
it, but also getting ready to stop. What finally tipped it for me was
the miscarriage - for a few days I was just in too much pain so I
*had* to say no. We did start again, but would count to 20 and usually
she was ok with stopping by 15 or so. I'm not sure what finally led to
no more asking, but she hasn't in awhile.

Felt good to nurse so long, but I was also ready to be done for
awhile.

Thanks to all for the suggestions on weaning, I tried some variation
of all of them and something finally clicked without too much trauma
in the end.
